Resilient By Design: 2021 HIPPY USA National Conference May 5-7, with Preconference May 4.

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters USA is pleased to present Resilient By Design: 2021 HIPPY USA National Conference, online, May 5-7, 2021.

With Resilient By Design, we invite those engaged in or with an interest in early childhood education, family engagement, and home visiting. Join us, share ideas, listen to successes, and hear about innovative research and best practices in what has evolved into our new normal. For many in the field, this new standard means how we:

  • Better engage with constituents amid the pandemic and set an agenda to further bring awareness to the critical role that our work plays in helping families thrive;

  • Reimagine equity within our areas of work and study and widen doors to inclusivity as we build toward a more equitable society and better future for our youngest learners;

  • Address the emotional and social well-being of families that we serve and how we can enhance our response to their needs;

  • Provide staff with tools and resources that contribute toward a stronger work/life balance.

What to Expect

The Conference will include three informative days of online breakout sessions, on-demand presentations, Ted-styled talks, plenaries, poster presentations, and more presented thought leaders and industry professionals sharing their expertise on critical issues, best practices, and research.

Hot Topics

Our home visiting and early education industries have several trending topics that will be featured over the three days:

  • Parenting amid the pandemic

  • Equity in early childhood education

We still have a few open slots for presenters for breakout sessions. For complete details, please email immediately for details.

Student Showcase

We will introduce our inaugural Student Showcase, where an emerging generation of early childhood education leaders will have the opportunity to present their work across several topics through research findings, visuals graphics, and breakout lectures.

Starting at Zero: Reimagining Education in America Screening

On May 6th, we will host a screening of Starting at Zero: Reimagining Education in America. This documentary explores the power of investing in high-quality early childhood education to provide all children and families the opportunity to attain the American Dream. The film brings together the voices of policymakers, educators, academics, business leaders, pediatricians, parents, and children. It features five current and past governors who are champions of early childhood education: Governors Steve Bullock of Montana, Kay Ivey of Alabama, and Ralph Northam of Virginia, former Governors Jim Hunt of North Carolina, and Phil Bryant of Mississippi. Popcorn included!

Preconference, May 4th

The optional Preconference on May 4th includes two highly engaging workshops that will focus on parent organizing, higher education, and support systems for low-income parents.

Family-Focused Organizing

Presented by Community Organizing and Family Issues, Chicago

This three-hour interactive workshop focuses on building parental leadership, advocacy, and organization around issues that impact families, including early childhood education. Parents and family support organizations are encouraged to attend.

Success in Workforce Programs for Parents

Presented by Aspen Institute, Washington D.C.

Parent-led, this two-hour workshop takes a deep dive into workforce pathways of interest to parents; and elevating two-generation (2Gen) approaches to workforce development pathways and policies that support families.

Dr. Avima D. Lombard Awards Ceremony

"One thing is clear. Parents care, and given the opportunity, parents are ready to invest in their children's education. Our work with HIPPY is designed to make that possible." Those are the words of HIPPY founder Dr. Avima D. Lombard. As with each National Conference, HIPPY organizations and program staff across the nation are nominated by their professional peers to be selected and honored during this ceremony. We look forward to this inspirational time.
